UNMC iEXCEL has received reaccreditation as an American College of Surgeons Comprehensive Education Institute through June 30, 2031. A full five-year reaccreditation recognizes iEXCEL’s excellence in simulation-based education, interprofessional collaboration & adoption of experiential learning technologies. This achievement reflects the dedication, innovation & collaborative efforts of the ACS- AEI leadership–as well as the entire iEXCEL team–in advancing health care education to this level of achievement. Immersive Learning
Pediatric Virtual Patient - Test Drive
Initiated by Dr. Aleisha Nabower, Department of Pediatrics, UNMC College of Medicine, the iEXCEL Virtual Standardized Pediatric Patient Project allows learners to practice newborn assessment skills in an immersive VR environment. Early feedback from the first “test drive,” was positive, as students highlighted the realism of the experience & potential to enhance pediatric training.

Cross-Campus Connectivity
Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy students in Omaha & Kearney connected through iEXCEL’s holographic technology for an interactive session with Dr. Brad Dexter, UNMC College of Allied Health Professions. This ground-breaking, cross-campus experience showcased how emerging technologies can enhance interprofessional education & collaboration across Nebraska.

3D Healthcare Content Creators in Training
iEXCEL partnered with Dr. Jorge Zuniga, UNO Biomechanics, to host a 3D Design & Printing in Healthcare workshop. Throughout June, pre-health students from across Nebraska visited the Davis Global Center to learn from campus leaders about design-thinking with healthcare technology. Participants, inspired by presenters across medicine and STEAM fields, created their own 3D printed healthcare solutions that addressed real-world challenges.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Building Confidence: Clinical & Surgical Practice Sessions Led by Dr. Abbey Fingeret, Dr. Jessica Veatch & Dr. Jill Zabih, College of Medicine students participated in a Residency Prep Course bootcamp where they practiced a wide range of procedural skills. The goal was to refine techniques, build confidence & strengthen readiness for safe patient care as the students transition to residency.
Emergency Response Exercises Clinical practice extends well beyond the inpatient room. Nebraska Medicinenurses, under the guidance of Kelsi Adams & Kaitlyn Corley, participated in a simulated emergency stairwell evacuation where they gained hands-on experience safely transporting patients who are too sick or physically unable to navigate stairs during an emergency.
