Explore New Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for new and stimulating research! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. Please contact any of our iEXCEL staff if you are interested in exploring research opportunities, especially related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
Mastering Compassionate Clinical Communication
College of Medicine students led by instructors Dr. Jill Zabib and Dr. Abbey Fingeret worked with iEXCEL standardized patients as they practiced advanced communication skills including talking to an upset patient, delivering bad news and utilizing translators.
Advanced Surgical Practice for Cardiac Nurses
Nebraska Medicine cardiac nurses, led by Dr. Stanley Radio and coordinated by Erin Vickers, recently used the Davis Global Center surgical procedure labs to practice identifying cardiac anatomy and abnormalities. This hands-on training supported continued professional development, with the goal of improving patient care outcomes.
Exploring Advanced Technology through Neuroblock
First-year College of Medicine students, led by Dr. Rob Norgren, used visualization technologies in the Davis Global Center for their annual month-long neuroblock curriculum. Faculty members Dr. Karen Gould,Dr. Samantha Simet, Dr. Matt Vilburn, Dr. Keely Cassidy, Dr. Megan Perry and Alex Anding led interactive sessions using iEXCEL’s immersive technologies to “bring learning to life” and in doing so, enhance understanding of neurological anatomy and physiology.
Additional Highlights
iEXCEL at SciFest
iEXCEL staff participated in NESciFest at TheDurham Museum, offering hands-on simulation experiences to students and the broader community. Attendees used a 3D anatomical workbench to explore the intersection of science, technology, and health care. The interactive exhibit demonstrates how immersive tools can enhance learning and spark curiosity across all ages.
Dr. Pamela Boyers presented at the DisruptxRN Conference hosted by The Ohio State University College of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Her keynote address, "Impact of XR in Health Professions Education: A Disruptive Journey," explored how extended reality and immersive learning are transforming the education and training of future healthcare professionals.
