Improving Human Performance & Effectiveness in Health Care
February 2024
Volume 10 Issue 2
We are excited to embark on this new year with UNMC students and faculty who continually push boundaries using the amazing technologies in the Davis Global Center. Please join us as we work with you to shape the future of health professions education at UNMC!
Orthopaedic Advancement
The UNMC Orthopaedic Department faculty, staff and resident team led by Dr. Jason Siebler practiced daily, hands-on learning in the Davis Global Center.
Beginning with introductory bone labs, orthopaedic procedures increased in complexity. These included total knee, hip and spinal surgeries, allowing residents to continuously build and improve surgical skills within simulated surgical environments.
Ultrasounds Identifying Abnormalities
Conducting ultrasounds is a crucial skill for both Children's Hospital residents and student Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) clerkships. These sessions offer invaluable benefits to health care professionals at all levels of training and especially their patients. Led by Dr. Adeeb Adam, Dr. Donna Moro-Sutherland, Dr. Carly Jennings, Dr. Katherine Lessman and Dr. Maggie Kuhlmann, these sessions enhance participants’ ability to identify abnormalities and achieve diagnostic precision, thereby ensuring timely and accurate intervention.
International Virtual Reality Healthcare Association Symposium
iEXCEL team members, Dr. Pamela Boyers, Michael Hollins and Dheeraj Varandani, presented at the 8th Annual International Virtual Reality Healthcare Association (IVRHA) Symposium in Tampa, FL. Their presentation, "Bringing Learning to Life: A Paradigm Shift for Health Professions Education," highlighted iEXCEL innovations and UNMC breakthroughs in utilizing extended reality platforms to improve human performance and effectiveness in health care. Feedback from a knowledgeable international leader included “The work at UNMC is light years ahead!” Thank you to State of Nebraska, City of Omaha, and the generosity of donors that provided a safe haven to practice skills and partner with innovators to make iEXCEL a reality!
