Explore New Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for scholarly activities! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. Please contact any of our iEXCEL staff if you are interested in exploring research opportunities, especially related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
SHPEP Students Explore Immersive Technology
Students from the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) recently visited iEXCEL for an interactive tour of the Davis Global Center. During their visit, students explored cutting-edge simulation and visualization technologies, including hands-on experiences with VR headsets. Additionally, in a session led by Dr. Precious Davis students dove deep into specific topics, including neuroanatomy, using immersive tools to enhance their learning.
Hands-On TTE Training Builds Confidence
Internal Medicine fellows recently honed their clinical skills by practicing a complex transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Using training mannikins in the iEXCEL Simulation Lab and led by Dr. Kali Gagnon, these simulation activities allowed fellows to refine and gain confidence in ultrasound techniques as they prepared for future patient care.
Perfusion Students Prepare with Real-World Practice
College of Allied Health Professions first year students in perfusion took part in ECMO sessions in the simulated operating room. Led by Jordanna Knott, these immersive scenarios gave students an opportunity to engage in highly relevant clinical scenarios, practice teamwork and deepen understanding of ECMO procedures in realistic surgical settings.
Additional Highlights
iEXCEL Presents 3D Technology at AMI
Bill Glass and Jer Weann Ang presented "Bridging Technology and Education: The Role of 3D and Interactive Media in Healthcare" at the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) Annual Meeting. In addition to their presentation, the iEXCEL team received an award of merit for an immersive virtual reality perfusion application.
Traci McKeon from the iEXCEL Kearney team presented at SimGHOSTS 2025. She demonstrated an innovative tool that simplifies simulation scenario selection. Her session showcased a searchable database that helps faculty identify scenarios aligned with curriculum goals. Attendees left with access to a sample database to implement at their own institutions.
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
