Explore New Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for new and stimulating research! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. Please contact any of our iEXCEL staff if you are interested in exploring research opportunities, especially related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
"iEXCEL moves into a new phase of growth - 'iEXCEL 2.0'"
iEXCEL 2.0 is underway, building on UNMC’s leadership in health care simulation to expand statewide outreach, elevate outcomes research, and advance immersive technology. With a renewed focus on operational efficiency and continued innovation iEXCEL is evolving to ensure UNMC remains on the forefront of health professions education.
Nebraska Medicine’s Women and Infant Services (WIS) team and EMS Paramedics recently took part in separate high-fidelity simulation trainings at iEXCEL, each tailored to their unique clinical roles. The WIS team, led by KP Gesch, practiced managing birthing complications and newborn emergencies using lifelike manikins in realistic delivery room scenarios. Led by Dr Eric Ernest, paramedics focused on advanced airway management and honing critical pre-hospital skills in a simulated trauma setting. Both trainings provided a safe, hands-on environment to sharpen decision-making skills, teamwork and technical expertise, reinforcing Nebraska Medicine’s commitment to excellence in patient care.
One Last Prep Course Before Graduation
Fourth-year College of Medicine students entering orthopaedic surgery residencies from across the country recently took part in a hands-on prep course at the Davis Global Center. This intensive simulation training gave students the chance to practice essential surgical skills that help bridge the gap between medical school and the fast-paced world of residency. Led by Dr. Jessica Veatch and Dr. Abbey Fingeret, students left iEXCEL feeling more confident and prepared for their next steps.

Defence Global: An iEXCEL Emerging Technologies Lab
Dr. Jeffrey Gold and Dr. Pamela Boyers published an article in DefenceGlobal titled, "Advancing the Adoption of Technology in Health Professions Education: An iEXCEL Emerging Technologies Lab." This case study proposes the development of a robust and resilient program that can measure the impact of interprofessional, experiential and immersive education upon training and patient care.
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
We look forward to continuing to innovate with you!
