Please be sure to reach out to iEXCEL to consider innovative ways to “bring learning to life!” Our iEXCEL staff truly enjoy assisting you in creating experiential and immersive ways to transfer knowledge, teach clinical skills and advance team training. Please contact the iEXCEL staff to plan your simulation and visualization activities.
Explore Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for new and stimulating research! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. For example: Do simulation exercises make a difference to individual (or team) performance? Does immersive reality excite or accelerate learning? Can patient safety improve because of learning in safe simulated environments? Which technologies are most effective for understanding complex anatomy or physiology? As we launch into the next level of development (iEXCEL 2.0), fostering research is a strong emphasis. Please contact iEXCEL staff if you are interested in research related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
Breaking Barriers: First Statewide Women's Stroke Management Conference
Nebraska State Stroke Task Force's Clinical and Rehabilitation Committee, in collaboration with iEXCEL, hosted the first-ever statewide conference on the Multidisciplinary Management of Stroke: Hemorrhagic and Acute Ischemic in Women. This multi-site event was broadcast from the Davis Global Center on UNMC's Omaha campus through live, interactive presentations from the Kearney and Norfolk campuses. Using the interactive digital walls between locations, attendees were able to engage in sessions and collaborate to understand how stroke manifests in women.
High School Alliance Scrubs In!
The Davis Global Center Operating Room welcomed a special group of students from the UNMC High School Alliance Study of Patient Care. They learned how to maintain a sterile field and gained hands-on experiences with identical equipment used by surgeons in the Nebraska Medicine ORs.
Residents Sharpen Skills Outdoors
Emergency Medicine residents engaged in hands-on training in an outdoor rural environment simulation. Under the guidance of Dr. Jason Langenfeld and Dr. Katie Willet, they practiced a variety of field skills, including treating bites, applying splints, and administering medications. These team-oriented activities were designed to enhance collaboration by building understanding between medical residents, emergency care providers and other health care professionals.
Exploring Prenatal Genetics
Genetic Counseling students got extremely creative with the iEXCEL interactive digital walls! Led by faculty member Sarah Fisher, they adapted an innovative educational tool created by Lizz Reese to explore prenatal genetics and carrier screening through this hands-on activity. This exercise greatly enriched their understanding as they collaborated to shape the future of genetic counseling.

Upcoming iEXCEL Innovation Showcase
Please join iEXCEL and the IVRHA for an Emerging Technology Showcase on October 10 from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. World-class industry leaders in the realm of immersive technologies for health care education will showcase their latest innovations through hands-on demonstrations in the Davis Global Center. Faculty, students and Nebraska Medicine are warmly invited and will be encouraged to provide feedback and teaching implications for the interactive experiences.
KVNO'sJeff Koterba recently visited with Sarah Kriss and Standardized Patient Sarah May to discuss the vital role of SP actors in student training and education at UNMC. These talented individuals are essential to the development of healthcare professionals. Stay tuned for upcoming hiring opportunities!
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
We look forward to continuing to innovate with you!
