Explore Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for new and stimulating research! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. As we launch into our next level of development (iEXCEL 2.0) there is a strong emphasis on fostering research. Please contact iEXCEL staff if you are interested in research related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
iEXCEL Innovation Forum
iEXCEL hosted a two-day Innovation Forum that included an Emerging Technology Showcase where world-class industry leaders in the realm of immersive technologies displayed their latest innovations through hands-on demonstrations. Dr. Dele Davies hosted a film screening of The Pitch: Patient Safety's Next Generation that featured UNMC professionals and the technology being used to solve complex health care problems. Day two included multiple presentations related to innovation in health professions education, as well as a round table discussion on immersive reality and GenAI adoption. Thank you to all who attended and made the event such a success!
Dental Hygiene Practices Skills in the Operating Room
The Dental Hygiene program led by Jane Broekemeier from the UNMC College of Dentistry taught students the correct sequence of providing dental care in the operating room and helped them learn vital skills and built confidence, while practicing safe approaches to patient care.
Hocus POCUS Practice
Internal Medicine residents visited the iEXCEL procedure labs for a hands-on workshop where they rotated through five stations to learn correct methods of performing paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar punctures, knee arthrocentesis and inserting central venous catheters, each focusing on precision skills and real-time needle guidance.
"Scary" ENT Conference
Dr. Christie Barnes and Amy Freking led the Department of Otolaryngology's annual “Scary ENT” conference in the Davis Global Center. Thanks to creative presentations as well as research posters, learning was both fun and insightful regarding specific complexities of patient care.
Additional Highlights
EMS Conference
UNMC and Nebraska Medicine hosted 40 rural emergency medical responders for the Activate EMS Symposium. Participants learned from UNMC faculty about critical topics in cardiac and neurology emergency care.
iEXCEL welcomed 250 undergraduate students from Chadron State, Peru State, Wayne State, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Kearney who have committed to return to rural and underserved areas in Nebraska to practice in a health care career.
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
We look forward to continuing to innovate with you!
