Explore New Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for scholarly activities! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. Please contact any of our iEXCEL staff if you are interested in exploring research opportunities, especially related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
Statewide Stroke Conference Connects in New Ways
iEXCEL hosted the Stroke Transitions Across the Continuum conference funded by DHHS through a federal block grant, uniting nearly 150 health care providers across Nebraska through both in-person and virtual sessions. The event strengthened collaboration statewide through live connections with health care professionals in Norfolk, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Omaha. Sessions focused on strategies to improve stroke care transitions from emergency response to community reintegration aimed at reducing fragmentation and improving patient outcomes.
UNMC Emergency Medicine residents recently took their training at a remote site during the iEXCEL Annual Outdoor Simulation Day. This immersive event placed learners in realistic, yet unpredictable environments where they practiced critical skills in trauma care, teamwork, and decision-making. By simulating real-life emergency scenarios outside the hospital setting and under pressure, participants strengthened their ability to deliver rapid, coordinated care in challenging conditions preparing them for the wide range of situations they may encounter in the field.
Dental Hygienists Gain OR Experience
Dental hygiene students from the UNMC College of Dentistry led by Jane Broekemeier recently stepped into the operating room at iEXCEL to expand their clinical training. The hands-on session gave students valuable familiarity with the OR environment while practicing surgical procedures and protocols.
Additional Highlights
Activate EMS Symposium Empowers Professionals
The recent Activate EMS Symposium equipped EMS professionals from across Nebraska with new tools, training, and strategies to strengthen emergency response. Through workshops, case studies, and networking, attendees gained practical skills and renewed motivation to serve their communities.
iEXCEL in Nebraska Medical Association Press
iEXCEL’s Emerging Technology Lab was recently featured in the Nebraska Medical Association’sAdvocateMagazine. The article, “Advancing the Adoption of Technology in Health Professions Education: An iEXCEL Emerging Technologies Lab,” highlights how iEXCEL is helping educators and clinicians explore, evaluate, and integrate cutting-edge tools, such as extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), and 3D modeling, into healthcare training. Through this lab, iEXCEL continues to lead the way in transforming how future health professionals learn, collaborate and deliver patient care.
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
We look forward to continuing to innovate with you!
