Explore New Research Opportunities
The Davis Global Center offers a unique venue for scholarly activities! With the vision to Improve Human Performance in Health Care the door is open for human factors and outcomes research. Please contact any of our iEXCEL staff if you are interested in exploring research opportunities, especially related to the impact of simulation and visualization on the outcomes of education and/or patient care!
Statewide Outreach: Connecting Immersive Reality Imagery Across Distance
Utilizing real-time connectivity between VR headsets, holographic boxes and 3D CAD Walls, iEXCEL tested statewide bandwidth capabilities between UNMC's Omaha and KearneyCampuses These tests successfully synchronized 3D content, enabling two-way holographic streaming, while supporting multi-user VR experiences with high quality visuals and audio. Results demonstrated the feasibility of real-time, cross-campus collaboration.
High Pressure Trauma Training
Emergency Medicine residents sharpened their trauma care skills through a high-pressure simulation activities with iEXCEL. Led by Dr. Jason Langenfeld and Dr. Kaitlin Dougherty, the session challenged residents to practice managing different patients within a multi-system trauma scenario.
From Anatomy to Application
Otolaryngology residents participated in an Anatomy of the Head & Neck course with iEXCEL. Led by Dr. Bradford Bell, learners practiced surgical approaches including thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, facial reanimation, neck dissections, laryngectomy, glossectomy, mandibulectomy and maxillectomy. They also gained experience using ultrasound to perform fine needle aspiration. The course provided valuable, hands-on training to strengthen both diagnostic and surgical skills.
Additional Highlights
IAFN conference at iEXCEL
As part of the 2025 International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN) Conference, iEXCEL hosted hands-on clinical workshops at the Davis Global Center that provided immersive training experiences. Using advanced simulation technology, including holographic anatomy models, interactive learning tools and simulated patient scenarios, workshops provided nurses with a unique opportunity to practice important skills in a realistic, state-of-the-art environment.
Join us for Stroke Transitions Across the Continuum, an interactive conference designed to strengthen collaboration across every stage of stroke recovery, from emergency care through community re-integration. Attendees will engage in guided discussions, practical exercises, and evidence-based strategies to improve care transitions, reduce fragmentation, and co-develop actionable tools to enhance patient outcomes and lower re-hospitalization rates.
Please continue to reach out to us directly with questions (visit the iEXCEL UNMC app) to learn how to access staff in the Davis Global Center, especially if you would like support from iEXCEL in creating simulation and visualization scenarios.
We look forward to continuing to innovate with you!
